Horse Therapy – Healing With Hooves

There’s something undeniably calming about being around horses. Their gentle presence, rhythmic movements, and intuitive nature have made them powerful partners in equine-assisted therapy, often referred to as horse therapy.

At East View Riding Centre, we’ve seen firsthand how horses can bring out the best in people — building confidence, calming anxiety, and sparking joy, whether you’re grooming, riding, or simply spending time with them.

What Is Horse Therapy?
Horse therapy isn’t just riding. It includes groundwork, grooming, leading, and bonding with horses under the guidance of trained facilitators. These sessions help people of all ages — from children with autism to adults coping with stress or trauma.

The Benefits of Horse Therapy:

  • Emotional support: Horses respond to human emotions, offering a mirror into our feelings.
  • Confidence building: Working with a horse encourages trust, patience, and leadership.
  • Physical benefits: Riding can improve balance, coordination, and muscle tone.
  • Mental clarity: The calm, natural rhythm of a ride and the beauty of the outdoors provide a peaceful break from modern life.

Why Horses?
Horses are non-judgemental and highly perceptive. They pick up on body language, tone, and emotion, making them brilliant therapy partners. They don’t care what you look like, where you’re from, or what kind of day you’ve had — they meet you as you are.

A Different Kind of Healing
Even if you’re not part of a formal therapy programme, just spending time with a horse can be deeply healing. Whether it’s a quiet hack through Ashdown Forest or a few minutes brushing a pony, horse time is good for the soul.
